Please read and discuss books with your child daily for 15 minutes - it really does make a difference! Please sign and comment in the diary then new books can be sent home. Reading folders are changed weekly on your child's reading group day. Please see your child's reading folder for the day it needs to be in school. If you require additional books, please let me know. Reading targets are sent home each time your child develops onto a new reading stage.

Mental Arithmetic assessments take place in class each week and are sent home. Please look through these with your child and help them to improve on their BEAT THAT! score by practising the number facts and skills.  We practise arithmetic skills each day in class. Little and often is the key!

Spellings are tested each FRIDAY. We are also learning the exceptional spelling words for Year 2 (See word list sent home). Please encourage your child to use the spellings in a sentence in the YELLOW spelling book. Your child should use the targets sent home on the 'Target Pencil' in their sentences in order to up-level their writing.

Year 2 visit the school library on their specified day.  Your child will choose a book and bring it home to share with you.  Please ask your child to indicate whether they enjoyed the book with an appropriate expression face (e.g. happy/unhappy) and write a short comment on the record sheet in their library folder.  Please return library books to school by the following library change session.

Talk Homework

Each week a Talk Homework slip may be sent home that explains what the topic is. Please spend time talking with your child about the given topic as this will help them complete their task in class.

P. E.

Year 2 have their PE lessons on Tuesday and Friday.  Please ensure your child has their kit with them in school at all times and that all items are clearly labelled.  It is essential that all kit is named. For outside games children may bring with a pair of tracksuit bottoms for colder weather. If for any reason your child cannot take part in P.E. they must have a note as all children are expected to participate. Earrings must not be worn and long hair must be tied back. No other jewellery should be worn.

Homework

Each week children should try to spend some time doing the following things ...

  • Reading / share the library book at home.
  • Learn spellings and use them in sentences appropriately using their writing targets.
  • Learn Maths Facts using Mental Arithmetic.
  • Complete the Topic Homework for the week.

Children can complete these extras-

  • Homework on Education City.
  • Research one of our topics at home e.g. find some facts about The Great Fire of London and bring it in.

If you have any questions about homework, please come and see me.
