Year 1
Welcome to Year 1!
We are delighted to welcome you to Year 1, an exciting stage in your child’s learning journey. Moving up from Reception is a big step, and in Year 1 we continue to build on the strong foundations the children have developed, helping them grow in confidence, independence, and enthusiasm for learning.
This year, the children will begin to explore a more structured curriculum while still enjoying plenty of opportunities for play, creativity, and practical, hands-on experiences. Our lessons are designed to spark curiosity and encourage children to ask questions, think for themselves, and share their ideas. We place a strong emphasis on developing core skills in reading, writing, and mathematics, while also nurturing a love of subjects such as science, art, music, and physical education.
In Year 1, children are encouraged to take more responsibility for their own learning, develop resilience, and celebrate their achievements—both big and small. We also place great importance on friendship, kindness, and teamwork, helping children to develop the social skills they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
We value the partnership between school and home very highly. Working together with families ensures that every child feels supported, happy, and ready to learn. Throughout the year we will keep you updated on your child’s progress and the exciting topics we will be exploring, and we look forward to sharing their successes with you.
We are very excited about the year ahead and cannot wait to see the children grow, learn, and flourish in Year 1.
