Mrs McKeown's Update Thursday 16th July

16 July 2020 (by Martin Coyne (m.coyne))

Today's update is a letter from our Chair of Governors.

Mrs McKeown

To: Parents and Friends of Longsands Primary School

As I write to you, we have been going through one of the most challenging periods many of us have ever faced and I hope, will not have to endure in the near future.  I am sure there will still be some time yet before any form of normality returns to us.

During the past few months education has had to face frequent changes, guidelines have changed, often weekly and sometimes daily.   During these difficult times the school has responded magnificently.  Our Head, with support from her  Management Team and staff, have revised plans, rules and operational procedures.

All changes have been made with the safety, concern and wellbeing of the children of the school.  The governors have been updated weekly and myself as frequently as has been necessary and with all of the proposals and changes we have fully supported Mrs McKeown.

Not every school has responded to guidelines uniformly and each school has had to make its decisions based on the resources and geographical lay out that it has.  I can assure you that Longsands has always responded as well as it could during each change in guidelines

I am proud of the way in which the school has been able to continue to look after children of key workers, enabling their parents to continue with their much-needed roles in society.

I am also grateful that Longsands has continued to support the education that has been going on in many of your homes. Parents, you should also be proud of the way in which you have risen to the task of home schooling, a task which many of you are untrained and were probably ill prepared at the start of lockdown.

The school is already well advanced in its plans for resumption in the Autumn term and much of the work will be aimed at helping the children continue to progress through this difficult period and readjust back to school life.

I am sure that sometimes the school has not been able to respond as you would have wished, but I can assure you the school has always responded as safely and as well as it could.

May I wish you all a good summer break and thank on your behalf the work that all of the staff at Longsands have undertaken during all of this academic year.

Kind regards

Stephen Hall
