MATHS
Please read and discuss books with your child daily for 15 minutes - it really does make a difference! Please sign and comment in the diary then new books can be sent home. Reading folders are changed weekly on your child's reading group day. Please see the timetable (KS1 door) for the day it needs to be in school. If you require additional books, please let me know. Reading targets are sent home each time your child develops onto a new reading stage.
Mental Arithmetic assessments take place in class each week and are sent home. Please look through these with your child and help them to improve their score by practising the number facts and skills. We practise arithmetic skills each day in class. Little and often is the key! My Maths homework is set each week relating to work covered in class. Your child has a password for this.
Spellings are tested each FRIDAY. We are also learning the exceptional spelling words for Year 2 (See word list sent home). Please encourage your child to use the spellings in a sentence in the YELLOW spelling book. Your child should use the targets sent home on the 'Target Pencil' in their sentences in order to up-level their writing.
Year 2 visit the school library on their specified day and your child will choose a book independently. Please ask your child to indicate whether they enjoyed the book with an appropriate expression face (e.g. happy/unhappy) and write a short comment on the record sheet in their library folder. Please return library books to school by the following library change session.
Talk Homework
Each week a Talk Homework slip may be sent home that explains what the topic is. Please spend time talking with your child about the given topic as this will help them complete their task in class.
